YOU THINK IT WONT.. BUT THIS COULD VERY WELL HAPPEN TO YOU!
On Monday, I was driving on the 202. I was just about at my destination exit when out of no where my hood flies up and smacks my windshield. The hood itself was inverted essentially taking the shape of what use to be that of my now non existent windshield. I am forced to slam on my brakes in rush hour traffic, turning my hazards on. I slam down as hard as i can on my car horn hoping to get the attention of those around me fearing that if i didnt hit the person in front of my, I would SURELY be hit by the person behind me. Lucky enough i was able to escape without further incident and after some doing, get safely to the inner median.
The worst part about the whole thing is that it could have been prevented. I was soo mad at myself, not just for having cost myself close to $1000 in repairs, but do to the fact that it could have been prevented. I had not even an hour before opened my hood to disconnect my battery to work on my electrical. after i was finished, i had put the hood down, but when it did not close correctly, i could not be bother to just push it down. I figured surely i would remember that my hood needed to be secured when i was going to take off in about 30 minutes or so to head to Mesa..
This is a hood latch. and it takes you maybe 1-5 seconds to check and make sure it is securely holding the hood of your vehicle in place.. and while we may feel inclined to do something else or fail to see the important of ensuring that it is Secured. I can assure you that it, more than almost anything else that you can do to your car, could very well be the difference between life and death while even on the shortest of trips. If you discover that your hood latch is damaged or no longer properly securing your hood. it is a 10-50 dollar piece and you should replace it immediately.

I have never been in a car accident so I can only imagine how you felt at the moment. Thankfully you're okay. It is crazy to think about how all of that could have been prevented, a simple 20 bucks to replace your hood latch and boom problem solved. Some people suck sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMarcus--Your 2 new entries are pretty good. Interesting topics and pretty well developed. Unfortunately, you are missing AE#3 and another self-generated.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you were able to escape your auto mishap without and further incident and that you are unharmed.
I'm glad you're OK, but I was cracking up while I was reading this. I worked for Auto Zone for almost ten years so I've heard more than my share of car stories but this is one I've only seen on TV. Stay Safe
ReplyDeleteP.S. Break parts cleaner works great to clean a sticking hood latch and then spray with lubricant like WD-40 or white lithium grease.
